Item Description
Custom bound hardcover is 5-1/8x7.25" and contains 12 issues Vol. 1 #1-12 from Nov. 1933 to Oct. 1934. This specially bound set was the personal copy of Roy O. Disney, Walt Disney's older brother and co-founder of The Walt Disney Company. While Walt led the creative side, Roy guided the business/finances aspect of the company. Roy became the company's first CEO in 1929 (although the official title was not given to him until 1968) and also co-chaired the role of chairman of the board with Walt from 1945-1960. After Walt's death in 1966, Roy postponed his retirement to oversee construction of what was then known as Disney World, later renamed Walt Disney World as a tribute to his brother. Roy served as president of Walt Disney Productions from 1966 until 1968. Front cover has gold gilt "Mickey Mouse Magazine - Vol. 1" title alongside full body image of Mickey Mouse and "Roy. O. Disney" name. Magazines have slight trim from their original size for binding purposes but the integrity of the issues are not impacted, just an occasional trimming of a bkg. or border. The binding is professional w/gold leaf on edges of pages. Blank pages have been added to inside front/back covers before and after the first/last issues. These magazines were issued by various dairies, represented within this bound volume. Each issue features 16 pages and includes specialty ad on back covers. Special themes/features of note include #2 Christmas issue, #4 Boy Scout issue, #5 Girl Scout issue, #9 "Meet Babe Ruth" article, #10 World's Fair article. Issues exhibit just trace of margin aging but as neatly bound remain totally bright and clean copies. There is a noticeable warping to pages as once exposed to moisture; covers also exhibit this warp. Covers have lt. corner tip wear and half of spine and just under half of back cover have dark staining, which does not affect inner pages. All remains firmly intact and structurally sound. Cover is VG/Fine overall. Issues as bound remain VF. A truly unique item of Disneyana. This item was previously offered through an official Disney Auctions sale and comes with Disney Auctions COA. We have seen only one other bound copy like this, which was the personal copy of Gunther R. Lessing, longtime head of Disney's legal department.
