Item Description
1-5/8x2-3/8" Cuban card from set distributed in packs of Diaz cigarettes. The cards in this set feature players from the 1923-1924 Cuban Professional League. 85 cards are in the set, the largest and one of the scarcest of all 1920s Cuban card issues. Printed in dark brown with photo on front along with team and player name and position "Phelan - Infielder Marianao B.B.C."
Art Phelan was a major league player for parts of five seasons from 1910-15 with the Cincinnati Reds and Chicago Cubs. He played one year in the Cuban League with Marianao. Card back includes number and description of the series with offer for an album. Designated by SGC as being from the "Richard Merkin Collection" and comes with Hake's COA.
