Item Description
19.75x29.5" poster features great stone lithography by The Donaldson Litho. Co. of Newport, KY. Poster is titled "Gibson's Vaudevillians," referring to John T. Gibson, an African American theater owner and native of Baltimore, MD. His Gibson's Auditorium Theatre on South Street in  Philadelphia, PA was known for its African American vaudeville routines and musical acts. Gibson later went on to buy the Standard Theatre in Philadelphia in 1914. Poster shows white trumpet player performing next to clownish-attired black man, who plays trombone as dog waits at his feet. Poster dates to the late 1800s. Poster has been folded into eighths and has aged masking tape along fold lines on back (which do not show through onto front). Additional aged pieces of tape on back at corners and scattered along masking tape. Small pieces of tape at top and bottom fold crease intersections blend somewhat. Small piece of tape at lower left corner. Bottom margin shows moderate wear w/1" tear and number of small tears as well as 1/8x1.75" sliver off edge. VG overall but would make for nice framed display. Rare.
