25x25.5". 1844. Portrait has slogan in ribbon below and is encircled by stalks of wheat w/text "Clay/Frelinghuysen" at top/bottom and "Tariff/Union" at left/right. Corners have campaign illustrations including: "Agriculture And Commerce" at top left; "Union And Our Country"; "Tariff Home League" and "Rolling In To Clear The Way" w/image of racoon holding "Constitution". A 2.5" separation and a tiny hole just left of center both affecting lower border and repaired w/stitched fabric on reverse. Also a tiny hole in lower right field repaired w/stitched fabric that does not affect image. Otherwise a damp stain from top right to bottom left. VG. A scarce early political campaign textile w/outstanding content.
