Item Description
9x11-7/8" vintage souvenir program sold at the Polo Grounds baseball stadium on August 26, 1943 in conjunction with the All-Star War Bond Game, played as part of the War Bond League that season. As a participant in the fundraising campaign that was going on all over the country at the time, Major League Baseball and its players and ball clubs were all highly visible in raising money for the War effort. This program identifies and pictures those Major Leaguers who were the most instrumental in collecting funds all season long. Among the stars of the day pictured here are Hall of Famers: Branch Rickey, Ed Barrow, Mel Ott, Joe McCarthy, Leo Durocher, Ernie Lombardi, Carl Hubbell, Joe Gordon, Bill Dickey, Arky Vaughan and Billy Herman. Another interesting inclusion in the program are the box scores from the first game ever played by several MLB Hall of Famers: Connie Mack, Eddie Collins, Tris Speaker, Walter Johnson, Honus Wagner, George Sisler and Babe Ruth. Front cover has been completely separated from the binding and exhibits tears, missing corners, edge wear, etc. Poor/Fair. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
