Item Description
Personal 2-5/8x6-1/8" Pee Dee State Bank check of Melvin Purvis (1903-1960), who was an American law enforcement official and FBI agent, noted for leading the manhunts that captured bank robbers such as Baby Face Nelson, John Dillinger and Pretty Boy Floyd. Check has been dated Aug. 5, 1939 and has been made out to cash for $583.65. Purvis has altered check , changing name of bank to Continental Illinois Bank & Trust Co. of Chicago as well as location and has signed in black ink. Check bears typical cancellation punches/stamps and has staple hole at upper left. Fine overall, but Purvis signature displays Exc. See following two lots. Comes with Hake's COA and JSA LOA.
