Item Description
Type 1 photo has been mounted to board which has been taped to 14x17" mat. Iconic "Raising The Flag On Iwo Jima" photo was taken by Joe Rosenthal (1911-2006), an American photographer who received the Pulitzer Prize for this photo taken during the Battle of Iwo Jima on Feb. 23, 1945. His picture became one of the best-known photographs of World War II. Matte finish photo has been inscribed by Rosenthal to then California Governor (and later Supreme Court Justice) Earl Warren in blue ink at bottom, which reads "To The Hon. Earl Warren, Great Californian And American - With Humble Respect And Admiration From Joe Rosenthal." Rosenthal has added "Suribachi-yama, Iwo Jima - February 23, 1945" caption below photo image at lower right. Photo has trace even aging and faint horizontal crease that runs across the heads of the Marines towards the back of the flag-raising crew. VF overall, but would make for wonderful display if framed. Comes with Hake's COA and JSA LOA.
