Item Description
Button is 1" w/additional text "The Lincoln Thank Offering." Reverse has W&H paper used only 1900-1912. Moderate age toning throughout. Fine. 7" long silk ribbon reads "Delegate 14th Annual Convention Of F.A.S. Of N.Y. Buffalo, August 17, 18, 19 And 20, 1886." Very faint horizontal fold at center. Otherwise extremely clean. Exc. Founded in 1861 by the American Missionary Association the group organized teachers from the North to set up schools in the South for freed slaves and their children. Over 500 schools and colleges were founded in the South after the Civil War so that African Americans could be educated as teachers, nurses and other professionals.
