Item Description
1.25" w/"OMC" back paper. 1941. Leonard Bates, an African American NYU football player, was benched for a road game against Missouri because of a 'Gentlemen's Agreement' that Northern schools would not play black athletes in the South. Seven students, 'The Bates 7', who organized protests were suspended by the University. This button was produced in support of their efforts to be re-instated. A superb example w/almost no wear under magnification. NM displaying Mint. Only the third example we've encountered in 53 years.
