Item Description
"Noah's Ark" is a 1928 film directed by Michael Curtiz and starring Dolores Costello and George O'Brien. Released by Warner Bros., it is representative of the transition from silent movies to "talkies," although it is essentially a hybrid film known as a part-talkie, which used the new Vitaphone sound-on-disc system. Most scenes are silent w/synchronized music score and sound effects (particularly the biblical ones), while some scenes have dialog. 7.5x8.5" high relief cast metal clock finished in bronze is in the shape of Noah's Ark, complete w/animals peering from the ship. Front of ship has inset clock w/profile photo portrait of star Dolores Costello. Both her name and that of co-star O'Brien appear in raised lettering on railing while base has high relied "A Warner Bros. Vitaphone Picture" banner design. Roof of ship has high relief film title,. which has been painted red. Warner Bros. commissioned this impressive promotional item from Sterling Art Metal Wks. Inc. which was likely sent to large theater managers/owners. Small flake off last letter of title on roof and some scattered minor aging and tarnish. Clock is overwound and no longer works. Fine/VF overall but remains an impressive promotional piece from the Golden Age of Hollywood.
