Item Description
On Dec. 15, 1988, James Brown began serving a six-year prison sentence at South Carolina's State Park Correctional Center for carrying a deadly weapon at a public gathering, attempting to flee police and driving under the influence of drugs. Offered here is the 8.5x14" single-sided "Inmate Property Inventory" sheet for Brown, aka  Inmate No. 155413. Sheet is dated July 19, 1989 and lists personal property of Brown's that was confiscated "Prior To Being Placed In Lockup." Curiously, inventory does not note the unauthorized $40,000 found in his cell one week later (which was in turn seized by the IRS to pay back taxes). Inventory notes clothing and accessories including 10 gallon hat, make-up kit, two jackets, seven scarves, six pairs of cowboy boots, cassette tapes, three LP records, 22 45 records, a "Godfather" shirt, "Godfather Of Soul" belt and various other personal items. Inventory has been signed by Brown in blue ink at bottom right. Sheet shows obvious handling wear w/creases and some scattered staining. Two 3/8" tears along left margin. Fine overall, but signature remains distinct. Ex Christies 2008 Auction.  Comes with Hake's COA and Roger Epperson/REAL LOA.
