Item Description
This 1" dia. cello button features a photo of Wagner from his days as a Pittsburgh player in uniform and seated holding a bat. The button is from 1925 following his player days when he ran for the office of sheriff. He tried for the Republican party nomination but lost to the party's chosen candidate and instead ran on the Labor Non-Partisan ticket, losing again in the November election to the GOP candidate. This button is among the rarest and most desirable of all baseball pin-backs. Reverse holds backpaper of Pittsburgh jobber Kant Novelty Co. Most of the front exhibits tan age stain but still remains totally glossy with very little surface wear and this is only evident upon magnification. Backpaper is aged but complete and intact. Technically VG because of the staining but still displays nicely as is. We have only offered a few of these in our 53 years. Our last example, in higher grade, sold for $1,298 in 2017.

While the button does not compare in value to the famous Wagner T206 card, there is no question that the button is the much rarer of the two items. A must have for collectors of baseball pin-backs and/or items for this HOF legend.
