Item Description
Group of eight 1.25" cello buttons. Players were issued in both blue and red jerseys on gold backgrounds. Blue series in this lot includes one with first we've seen imprint of "Eilermans'" (no position indicated but shows 3rd baseman) as well as Captain, Pitcher, Third Base, Short Stop, Centre Field. Red series are: Second Base and Centre Field (gold background has lost its luster so background appears darker than the rest of the buttons in this lot). All have complete and clean Whitehead & Hoag backpapers with patent date of 1896 but these were actually issued between 1900-1912. Lt. wear but overall a clean and glossy group, mostly Exc. A classic and early baseball pin-back series.
