Item Description
1.25" with back paper of J. Earl Rogers, New Orleans, La. and front text in French that translates to: The Victory/14 July 1918. Button was made as result of an Executive Order in May, 1918 by President Wilson directing that the national flag of France be displayed on all public buildings and ships of the United States at home and abroad on July 14, 1918 in honor of the French national holiday Bastile Day. We believe the Frenchman on this button is General Petain who became Marshal of France later that year on November 21st. Very slight age marks on the dark cream background. With magnification, there are five tiny hairline stress lines in the cello surface on the outer edges. These are about 1/8" long and for practical purposes invisible. High gloss. First we've seen.
