Item Description
28.75" long on felt. Attached to original 27" long wooden pole. Graphic of US Capitol dome w/"I Was There" above and "Washington D.C. April 18, 1959" below. Hole at top left where corner detached from wooden pole and a tiny loss at point. Light even age toning and handling. Fine. The event was held at the Sylvan Theater on the grounds of the Washington Monument and coordinated by A. Phillip Randolph and Bayard Rustin. King spoke to over 25,000 people encouraging youth to "Make A Career Of Humanity. You Will Make A Greater Person Of Yourself; A Greater Nation Of Your Country And A Finer World To Live In."
