Item Description
Baranger Motion machines, or "Baranger Motions" were mechanically animated window displays for jewelry stores produced from 1925 to 1959 by the Baranger Company of South Pasadena, CA. Designed by Arch and Hazel Baranger as well as Robert Gerlach, these displays were manufactured in production runs limited to approx. 30 each, w/a total of 167 different designs produced. The displays were never sold, instead they were rented to jewelers on a monthly basis. These hand-made and highly detailed displays covered many themes, this one features elopement theme. 21.5"' tall by 25" wide by 11" deep. When plugged in and turned on motions include - young woman w/packed bag leans out window as revolving chain-driven track propels young suitor w/ladder to front of house. A man's head peeks out around left side of house as man walks past front of house, the cottage's front door opens, revealing young woman's disapproving father, who motions him to keep walking as young woman retreats back into her room. Display consists of several different materials including composition figures. Replaced electrical cord, but now fully functional. Front left has .5" and .75" areas of green wall surface flaked off. This is not overly distracting and rest of display has even aging. Fine/VF. Comes w/original large shipping case w/company labels.
