Item Description
1.5" and 1.75" dia. Both have notation "19 June 1968 Wash D.C. Poor People's Campaign" in black marker on metal backs. In 1968 SCLC headed by Dr. Martin Luther King was planning a major demonstration in Washington D.C. In the midst of planning, King went to Memphis to participate in a sanitation workers strike where he was assassinated. The demonstration went on as planned and these buttons were two of several varieties produced. The first is considered the rarest of those varieties. A tiny 1/8" separation on extreme outer edge at 11 o'clock that occurred in manufacturing and remains tight, flat and structurally sound. Otherwise scattered vertical air streaks and a faint scuff at 5 o'clock. Fine. Second has slogan "June 19 Solidarity Day." Full gloss and perfect centering. Second has only light wear in reflected light Exc.
