Item Description
Only example known to Hake's, 1.25" without maker and with spring pin holding 1-3/16" dia. faux leather very solid baseball with reddish-brown stitching close to the color of the button's text. Muchinsky acquired this after his book was published and dated it in his inventory as 1925 because the design and type face is very similar to a button shown in his book that reads "World's Series/Pittsburgh/1925". We concur in his attribution. The 1925 Washington Senators were winners of the American League pennant, finishing with a regular season record of 96-55 under National Baseball Hall of Fame manager/player Bucky Harris, who also doubled as the team's starting second baseman. The team's biggest offensive forces that season were future Hall of Fame outfielders "Goose" Goslin and Sam Rice, while the mound corps was led by a living legend, the "Big Train", Walter Johnson and fellow Cooperstown enshrine Stan Coveleski. Johnson would ultimately become one of five members of the very first Baseball Hall of Fame induction class, joining Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, Honus Wagner and Christy Mathewson. The Senators would ultimately fall to the Pittsburgh Pirates in seven games to lose the 1925 World Series. NM. Paul Muchinsky Collection.
