Item Description
First example Hake's has offered, 1" with original but blank back paper and spring pin holding narrow ribbon joined to a loop on a slightly convex .75" dia. figural baseball. This is an interesting one day button as it was issued on Sept. 7, 1926 while he was playing for Newark in the International League. Although he broke in with Cincinnati in 1921 and would spend the next four seasons there, Lew would move on to the Philadelphia (NL) ball club in 1925. Beginning in 1926, Fonseca would spend his prime years with the Cleveland Indians, including the 1929 season which saw him win the American League batting title with a .369 average and finished his career with a sterling .316 batting average. Later, as a manager of the Chicago White Sox, Fonseca was among the first to use film to analyze games and detect player flaws. NM.  Paul Muchinsky Collection Book Example.
