Item Description
Rare 2.75" without maker name, large oval button featuring their elephant mascot commemorating the first of their three consecutive years as American League champions. The 1929 Philadelphia Athletics were winners of the American League pennant, finishing with a superb regular season record of 104-46 under National Baseball Hall of Fame manage, Connie Mack, who garnered the most managerial wins in MLB history. Leading the Athletics offense was a quartet of future Hall of Fame selectees: Jimmy Foxx (1B), Eddie Collins (2B), Mickey Cochrane (C) and Al Simmons (OF). The mound corps was led by one of pitching's all-time greats, HOF'er, Robert "Lefty" Grove". Philadelphia took on and disposed of the Chicago Cubs during the 1929 World Series to become World's Champions. Couple pinpoint blue dots on the background as printed. Lettering slightly extends around the upper curl. High gloss. Exc. Paul Muchinsky Collection Book Example.
