Item Description
Scarce 2.75" oval without maker name. The 1929 Chicago Cubs ball club finished in first place in the National League with a record of 98-54 under National Baseball Hall of Fame Manager Joe McCarthy. Leading the offense was a quartet of future Baseball Hall of Famers: Rogers Hornsby (2B - middle row, third from right), Gabby Hartnett (C), Hack Wilson (OF - middle row, far right) and Kiki Cuyler (OF - middle row, second from right). Chicago would go on to lose the World Series to the American League champion, Philadelphia Athletics in five games. Spring pin holds a red and white pair of short ribbons with both partially torn where they cross the back lower edge. White has width of 3/8" not torn and red is down to only a 1/16" not torn. While the button displays super clean and with high gloss, the top area  over the words "Champions 1929" and blank areas left and right have all but microscopic tiny scratches and white dots on the celluloid surface. Perhaps a decal once covered this area as the specks of matter do not extend lower than the date numerals. VF. Paul Muchinsky Collection.
