Item Description
This watch from 1933 is not only the first Mickey Mouse watch but it is also the first version of that watch produced. It was altered slightly by the Fall of 1933 and then other slight alterations occurred throughout the Winter of 1935. 4.5" long box w/hinged lid is first version box as well, w/single Mickey image on lid (which was later changed to show multiple Mickey images on top and on lid interior). Top left corner of lid has "1933 A Century of Progress Chicago" foil sticker as originally issued. Inside of lid features same Mickey design and box has expertly crafted replacement cardboard insert. Box has scattered aging/wear but remains tight and is Fine overall. Definitive characteristics of the first version watch are art deco geometric designs on bezel, wire lugs attached to metal band and number "5" on dial is above Mickey's knee. Animated dial, Mickey's hands point at the numerals and between his legs is small second hand disc that rotates and features three small Mickey images. Has seven metal link band w/clasp plus additional pair of attachments featuring Mickey images, both which retain bright full luster and near full black accent paint that is typically missing. Band and case both exhibit nice bright luster. Dial is clean and watch is a high grade, Exc. example. Watch is running. This first version Mickey Mouse watch is very desirable and rare as boxed.
