Item Description
Rare 1" without maker name as is typical for most real photo buttons. The image is a photo of a pen and ink drawing of a bear with bat and dated ball with the lettering gone over a second time to make it a bit more pronounced before the photo was taken of the art to produce the photographic negative used to print the images on photographic paper to produce the buttons. The 1932 Chicago Cubs finished in first place in the National League with a record of 90-64 under National Baseball Hall of Fame player/manager Rogers Hornsby. In addition to the "Rajah", the Cubs offense was led by a trio of future Hall of Famers: Gabby Hartnett, Kiki Cuyler and rookie second baseman, Billy Herman. The pitching staff was led by HOF starter, Burleigh Grimes. Chicago would go on to be swept by the New York Yankees 4-0 during the 1932 World Series. Reverse metal has tiny 1/16" dent which makes a tiny bump just barely felt on the front center. There is a tiny bit of surface wear and a few tiny air dots which can be seen in reflected light but all exceedingly minor. Full gloss. A charming image which seems to show the bear ready to bunt the 1932 ball. Paul Muchinsky Collection Book Example.
