Item Description
1.25" without maker name but with union bug reverse stamp. The 1939 New York Yankees club was one of  the strongest of all-time, finishing with an American League best record of 106-45 under National Baseball Hall of Fame manager Joe McCarthy. Leading the offense was a quartet of future Baseball Hall of Famers: Lou Gehrig (1B), Joe DiMaggio (OF), Joe Gordon (2B) and Bill Dickey (C). Leading the mound corps were HOF starters, Vernon "Lefty" Gomez and Red Ruffing. The 1939 Cincinnati Reds were winners of the National League pennant with a regular season record of 97-57 under National Baseball Hall of Fame manager, Bill McKechnie. This Cincinnati ball club was led by future Hall of Fame star catcher Ernie Lombardi, who was the National League MVP the previous season in 1938.
