Item Description
The "Superman" daily comic strip started Jan. 1939. It is very likely that this rare 1-3/8" dia. cello button is from that year. Rim text surrounding classic image of Superman breaking chains reads "Read Superman Daily - In The Democrat." Tiny 1/8" hairline crack at 8 o'clock area (crossing "In" portion of rim text). Some lt. surface wear, only noticeable upon close inspection, o/w button remains totally bright and glossy. Fine/VF. We know of only five examples of this button, and most of those have significant wear/damage. We sold the high grade example from the Franco Toscanini Collection for $3,478 in 2015. When it comes to period Superman collectibles, this button is infinitely rarer than "Action Comics" #1. Dan Makara Collection.
