Item Description
Scarce 2-3/16" with curl maker Dawson Co. Mfrs. Cleve. O". Likely made for the World Series, the Cleveland Indians in 1948 first faced the Boston Red Sox in a one-game playoff for the American League pennant, prevailed, and then went on to beat the Boston Braves in the World Series. The 1948 Cleveland Indians finished the regular season with a record of 97-58 under National Baseball Hall of Fame player/manager Lou Boudreau. The offense was led by a pair of Hall of Famers, rookie Larry Doby (OF) and Joe Gordon (2B). The pitching staff was the league's best, highlighted by the inclusion of rookies Satchel Paige and Bob Lemon along with veteran fireballer Bob Feller. Button has a few faint dot age marks on perimeter with .25" still light but larger mark on left at 9 o'clock. There are a dozen widely scattered near pinpoint raised dots on the cello surface that catch light but really of little consequence. Full gloss. Fine. Paul Muchinsky Collection Book Example.
