Item Description
First example Hake's has offered, 3.5", no maker. Rare black and white variation, otherwise identical to the previous button that has red type. This b/w version was likely a test done before the red text version went into production The 1950 Philadelphia Phillies, a/k/a the "Whiz Kids" won the National League pennant with a record of 91-63 under manager Eddie Sawyer. The offense was led by future National Baseball Hall of Famer Richie Ashburn, while the pitching staff was led by fellow Cooperstown selectee, Robin Roberts. The Phillies would fall to the mighty New York Yankees in four straight games during the 1950 World Series. To the upper right of Eddie Sawyer a .25" long apparent hair is trapped under the celluloid. There is also tiny speck of brown color as made under the celluloid above Granny Hamner. Very little surface wear, high gloss, and VF. Paul Muchinsky Collection.
