Item Description
Scarce, 3.5" button has a light union bug back stamp. Some loss of dull silvery finish from the back outer raised rim. The front matches the previous dated button except the panel below "Brooklyn Dodgers" is cream colored not gray and there is no "1952" date. The 1952 Brooklyn Dodgers stormed through the National League regular season, winning the pennant with a record of 96-57 under manager Chuck Dressen. The Dodgers were led by a quartet of future National Baseball Hall of Famers on offense: Duke Snider (OF), Pee Wee Reese (SS), Jackie Robinson (2B - back row, third from left) and Roy Campanella (C - middle row, fifth from right). Brooklyn would take on the mighty New York Yankees in the 1952 World Series, falling just short of a championship when they lost the seventh and decisive game.  On the cream below the "ODG" of "Dodgers" there are three scratches with two of those about 1/8' and 3/8" long showing. The rest of the button is clean and glossy. VF. Paul Muchinsky Collection Book Example.
