Item Description
Rare 1.5" single day issue on May 25, 1952 with back paper of maker St. Louis Button Co. Button is from the era in which Dean announced ball games on Mutual radio with the regular Falstaff Brewing announcer, Al Helfer. Dizzy Dean broke into the Major League with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1930, albeit for just one game before assuming a spot in the Cardinals pitching rotation from 1932-37. During that time span, Dean won 18, 20, 30, 28, 24 and 13 ball games, winning the National League MVP award in 1934 and finishing second in MVP voting in 1935 and 1936. Dizzy would finish his career with the Chicago Cubs, hanging up his spikes in 1941 with career totals of 150-83 along with a 3.02 ERA and 1,163 strikeouts. Dean was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1953.  NM. Paul Muchinsky Collection Book Example.
