Item Description
Possibly a unique variation of the popular 1915 PM1 issue which utilizes the same image of Dick Hoblitzel as part of its known checklist. The difference in appearance is that the ornate frame surrounding the oval on the PM15 pinbacks is not present here and this is produced as a stickpin, not a pinback. 2.25" long with 11/16" long oval frame holding full figure photo of Holblitzel wearing a glove. Dick was a first baseman and key member of the 1914-18 Boston Red Sox club, playing alongside National Baseball Hall of Famers: Babe Ruth, Tris Speaker and Harry Hooper. In reflected light there are eight light vertical scratches, mostly to the right of his image. Far left, has tiny curved line in the printing of the photo and just above his throwing arm is a very faint round stain about 1/16" dia. Image remains quite clean with his last name printed below. Fine. Paul Muchinsky Collection.
