Item Description
1.75", no maker, rookie-era button w/o logo on cap issued during the mid-1950s. After playing briefly in the Negro Leagues, Ernie Banks began his Major League Baseball career in September 1953 after signing with the Chicago Cubs and would spend the next 18 seasons in Chicago before retiring from active duty in 1971. Famous for his sunshiny demeanor and catchphrase "Let's play two", Banks was a fan favorite, whether playing shortstop for the first half of his career or after moving to first base when his mobility slowed down a bit. Banks won back-to-back National League MVP awards in 1958 and 1959 and finished with career numbers of .274 along with 512 home runs and 1,636 RBI's. Ernie was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY in 1977. Very tiny raised cello dot just below his chin. Very little actual surface wear. Exc.
