Item Description
1.75" no maker but with yellow metal back and union bug stamp. Dr. Muchinsky notes in his book this original photo of Maris shows him wearing a Kansas City Athletics hat. Maris joined the Yankees before the 1960 season began and it seems the Athletics hat logo was airbrushed out prior to making this button. Roger Maris began his Major League baseball career in 1957 with the Cleveland Indians for two seasons followed by a two year stint with the Kansas City Athletics before coming to the New York Yankees in 1960. For the next three seasons, Maris would be one of the most dominant hitters in baseball, including his incredible 1961 season breaking Babe Ruth's single season home run record of 60, which had stood since 1927. Roger would finish his career in the National League with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1968, bringing his career totals to .260 with 275 home runs and 850 RBI's. Cello has all over scratches with most showing only in reflected light. However, there are a few short ones that can be seen with straight on viewing on the left background along the side of his face. Fine, although displaying Exc. with gloss, Paul Muchinsky Collection Book Example.
