Item Description
24.75x29" wooden frame contains oil painting original art by Lucius Wolcott Hitchcock (1868-1942), an American artist, illustrator and educator, known for his paintings. Art is for July 29, 1916 issue of "Collier's" and is for Chapter 14 of "Mr. Britling Sees It Through" story by H.G. Wells. Art shows Mr. Britling in his study, writing a letter to his parents. Artist has signed art lower left. Art has 2.75x4.25" card w/hand-lettered caption attached at lower right. This differs from published art in that caption card is not present in magazine. Caption card has some scattered moisture staining and painting shows some lt. dust soiling/aging. Bottom center has 1/8" thick cut to painting (measuring 2 long) that has been partially filled in. Fine overall but still very nice for display.
