Item Description
1/2" (16mm). Brass w/original shank. Portrait of British Prime Minister William Pitt w/text encircling "No Stamp Act 1766." Pitt was instrumental in the repeal of the act and was considered a friend of the colonies. Excavated w/surface deposits creating some unevenness but text remains legible and portrait distinguishable. Just Good. Several examples are known in the 25mm size but this is the only 16mm specimen known to us. An important and rarely offered artifact representing a seminal moment on the path to the American Revolution and very likely the first American political button.
