Gonzalez spent many winters, first as a catcher/first baseman and later as a manager, playing in his native Cuba while spending his summers playing Major League baseball here in the U.S. Gonzalez began his MLB career in 1914 with the Cincinnati Reds before moving on to the St. Louis Cardinals in 1915 and New York Giants in 1919. Gonzalez would spend five seasons with the Chicago Cubs beginning in 1925 before finishing his career with the Cardinals again in 1931-32.
