Item Description
1.75" with W&H back paper showing soldier in a box car with "Schlitz Beer" emblems on its side. He prepares to throw a case of beer to his four buddies rushing toward the car. All wear Rough Rider style hats.  Text reads "Who Stole The Beer - 160th IND. And 3rd KY - Remember Halloween Night At Lexington." The button documents to the fall of 1898. The 160th Indiana Volunteer Infantry was in Newport News, VA from July 30th to August 31st, 1898. It was intended to be part of the Puerto Rico campaign but never shipped out because the peace protocol was signed. Following Newport News, the unit departed for Lexington, KY where the event described on this button apparently occurred. Only third seen with our last exceeding $400. Age traces on back paper with very minor surface wear on the cello in reflected light. High gloss, no stain and Exc. Alan Weinberg Collection.
