Item Description
3.25" long with blades closed. Each inscribed at base on one side "Golden Rule", one side depicts the 1914 Boston Braves "World Champions" under manager, George Stallings while the reverse side pictures the 1914 "Champions" Philadelphia Athletics under Hall of Fame manager Connie Mack. The 1914 Boston Braves club won the National League pennant, finishing with a regular season record of 94-59 and then proceeding to steamroll the Philadelphia Athletics in four straight games to become World's Champions of baseball in a shocking upset of Connie Mack's powerful Athletics ball club. Boston was led throughout their championship season by the keystone combo of future HOF'ers, shortstop Rabbit Maranville and second baseman Johnny Evers. The 1914 Athletics ball club won the American League pennant with a final record of 99-53 and featured future National Baseball Hall of Fame enshrinees: Frank "Home Run" Baker (1B), Albert "Chief" Bender (SP), Eddie Collins (2B) and Eddie Plank (SP). Blades worn from use, small loss of silvering from case ends, and clear celluloid of grips has yellowish tone plus, microscopically, all over tiny surface wear marks. Text and photos remain distinct with these small exceptions. On each side, the first player on the left has about 50% of image gone and on the side reading "Braves World Champions 1914" the letters "Br" are gone. On the side reading "Athletics. Champions. 1914" center focus is on "Mack" pictured much larger than the others. VG. Paul Muchinsky Collection.
