The 1940 Cincinnati Reds won their second consecutive National League pennant with a record of 100-53 under National Baseball Hall of Fame manager Bill McKechnie. Leading the offensive and defensive responsibilities was future HOF catcher, Ernie Lombardi. Cincinnati would go on to win the 1940 World Series in seven games over the Detroit Tigers. Exc.
