Item Description
1.25" no maker with spring pin holding three ribbons in red, white and bluish-purple. This last ribbon is bit shorter than other two and thus not crimped into the seam of the two part tin ball which is marked "Made In U.S.A." Ball has a "Souvenir of St. Louis, Mo." decal while the other text on the ball are applied stickers. The 1944 St. Louis Browns won the American league pennant with a final record of 89-65 under manager Luke Sewell. The club was led offensively by one of the best hitting shortstops in baseball history, Vern Stephens, as he finished the season at .293 along with 20 homers and 109 RBI's. The Browns would go on to lose the 1944 World Series to the cross-town rival, St. Louis Cardinals, in six games. Surface of ball has some small raised spots as made plus tiny wear on the decal, Fine.
