Item Description
Only example known to Hake's and from an uncatalogued series of at least three different (see next two items). 1.25", issuer unknown, but w/Phila. Badge Co. back paper. Hornsby played for the 1929-32 Chicago Cubs. He is widely regarded as the top right-handed hitter in baseball history as well as the greatest offensive second baseman to ever play the game. Hornsby would finish his career with a .358 career batting average along with 301 homers, 1,584 RBI's, 1,579 runs scored and 135 stolen bases. Hornsby would take home two National League Most Valuable Player awards along with finishing in second and third place on two other occasions. Hornsby would gain election to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1942. Trace of age to front and back. Front surface has been evenly depressed although the resulting dent is not at all seen from the front. The flattening is just felt, not seen. From the back, there is a tiny collet dent just the width of the pin shaft. In reflected light, many all over hairline scratches are present: however, they are so light as to not show at all unless the cello surface is angled. Front remains bright and glossy. Fine. Paul Muchinsky Collection.
