Item Description
Large and impressive 26" tall animated display piece on 12.25" dia. painted wood barrel circus stand w/attached carved wood and hand-painted Timothy Mouse figure. Figure consists of lower body (w/removable tail, a rubber-coated curved metal rod), legs and feet and separate upper body w/extended arms (one holding baton) and separate attached head, all painted in bright circus colors as he appeared in the 1942 animated feature Dumbo. The style and composition of this display leads us to believe that it was a unique creation of a master craftsman, and was used as a high end display, either in a major department store or even more likely as a display in the early years of Disneyland. Judging from cord, motor and other features, display dates to the 1950s. The animated feature, operated by a cord extending from his back down through to the motor, creates vigorous back and forth movement. The small commercial style heavy duty motor works smoothly. The original electrical cord has an in-line fuse holder. A store box that held replacement fuses is mounted inside the base so the type of fuses needed can be determined if fuse replacement becomes necessary. Barrel base has some lt. scattered paint wear along wooden slats and pants but is o/w VF/Exc. First we've seen of this high quality display.
