Item Description
Unique example of this rare single day event button, 2-3/16" w/union bug back stamp. Front text includes "New York City Reception." Reverse opening has inserted paper with perforations on top and bottom edges and "Mel Allen" typed on the front to show in the front window. Button is dated for event "Aug. 19, 1949" and would have been owned and worn by long-time New York Yankees broadcaster, Mel Allen, best known for his 1970s-1990s "This Week in Baseball" weekly recap show broadcast on network TV and presenting highlights of the top plays from Major League Baseball games during the previous week. Following Connie Mack's retirement as the all-time winningest manager in MLB history, Connie would be presented with numerous awards and accolades over the next couple of years. Glossy, Exc.
