Item Description
3.5" no maker w/the only curl text "Patent Pending" largely covered by the metal edge. Front has photo of Mays in Giants uniform w/his blue facsimile signature under the acetate. Additional text "Testimonial December 1, 1971/Exclusive- Mister Marty-Press". The addition of this name makes this unique, the few others we have seen just had the word "Press" at bottom center. Widely regarded as one of the greatest all-around players of all-time, Willie Mays, affectionately known as "The Say Hey Kid", began his Major League career during the summer of 1951 with the New York Giants and would go on to an amazing 22 year Major League Baseball career. Willie would finish with a career batting average of .302 along with 660 home runs and 1,903 RBI's. Mays would win the National League's MVP award twice as well as finishing in second place in the voting on two other occasions. Mays would be selected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1979. Most silver flashing has evaporated from the back but not oxidized. Front is glossy, Exc. Rare single day issue, made even rarer by the unique name imprint. Paul Muchinsky Collection Book Example.
