Item Description
2.5" no maker. A rather basic looking button w/just text but the lack of graphics is made up for with the rarity of this button, the only example Hake's has offered. Jackie Robinson made his Major League debut on April 15, 1947 for Branch Rickey's Brooklyn Dodgers, becoming the first African American ballplayer in the modern Major Leagues. Robinson would go on to win the National League Rookie of the Year award in 1947 and would follow that up w/an NL MVP award two years later, in 1949. Robinson would finish his career w/a .311 batting average along w/137 home runs, 734 RBI's, 947 runs scored and 197 stolen bases. Robinson was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1962. About 50% silver luster remains on reverse which has a brass bar pin. Front has a few tiny cello indents, small scratches and a bit of a raised streak horizontally below his name caused by the bar pin during assembly. Fine. Paul Muchinsky Collection.
