Item Description
1.25" dia. button features image of Howdy Doody as he looked when this button was offered March 23, 1948 as part of the Howdy Doody for President campaign. The show at that time was carried by only five East Coast stations and the offer of the button was made a total of seven times. NBC Television was astonished by 60,000 requests that poured into their mailroom. The incredible response to this button offer inspired national firms like Colgate, Continental Baking, Ovaltine and Mars Candy to quickly sign on as show sponsors. The button is Mint as made and pinned to the original card as issued to the person making the request. Card includes NBC address, "Howdy Doody" facsimile signature. Card has lt. even aging and has some creasing around button area at left. Card is Fine/VF while button remains glossy and Exc. Comes w/original NBC mailing envelope w/typed recipient name/address. Just lt. wear and VF/Exc. Envelope and card are both rare, this just the second example of the card and the first envelope we've offered in our 54 years. A historic lot from the earliest years of children's television.
