Item Description
Two assembled artboards for overall size of 23-1/8x29.5" featuring pen and ink original art by Hal Forrest (1895-1959), known for his 1928-1942 stint on Tailspin Tommy. Top two-thirds features original pen and ink art for Tailspin Tommy Sunday page No. 405, published July 18, 1937. Bottom third features eight panel Four Aces companion strip by Forrest. Top has aged "Tailspin Tommy" title stat and "Tailspin Tommy All Over The World Flying Club" stat w/adjoining panel showing two swastika insignias of Finland and Latvia w/"Military Aircraft Insignia Of All Nations" stat at top. Tailspin Tommy Sunday features nine panels, w/first featuring just hand-lettered text. Story takes place at Slade's ranch, w/Martin and Pete riding up w/news and "Pop" driving Betty and Jerry to the ranch, while cowboy criminals await their arrival. Pencils by Forrest were inked (uncredited) by his assistant Reynold Brown. Four Aces strip features a break in the murder of Curley Dorgan, w/scene set at airport where a film is being shot. First and last panels feature hand-lettered text. Four Aces artboard has been attached to larger artboard w/aged masking tape on back which has some splits at left/right. Stat paste-over at top is moderately aged and has some corner tip/edge wear. Artboard has corner tip and edge wear and is Fine overall, but art remains clean and would make for nice framed display.
