Item Description
1.75" w/W&H back paper. Issued w/imprint for "The Goerke Co.", a department store in Newark, New Jersey for TR's fabled return from African safari on June 18, 1910 in New York City. The colorful design features TR, wearing a toothy grin in safari gear and holding a rifle, perched atop the boat's cabin w/"TR USA" on baggage behind him and surrounded by a hippo, giraffe, rhinoceros, zebra and two lions on the boat's deck. Light brown foxing on curl that just creeps into view at 11 o'clock otherwise only light surface wear in reflected light. Extremely Fine and displaying beautifully w/full gloss. This design is easily the rarest of the handful of designs issued for Roosevelt's return. Given the advertising imprint and that this is one of less than five known to us in any condition, we place it high among the most coveted TR buttons guaranteeing that its next care taker will assuredly be "Delighted."
