Item Description
8x10-7/8" four-page program for 1927-1928 lecture given by college football legend Knute Rockne (1888-1931), part of series of Leigh-Emmerich Lecture Bureaus, Inc. sponsored lectures by "America's Greatest Football Coach." In the 13 years as head coach of Notre Dame, Rockne lost just 12 games and Notre Dame won the National Championship in 1924, 1929 and 1930. Rockne is well-known for his 1928 "Win One For The Gipper" Notre Dame speech. He sadly perished in a plane crash at the age of 43. Regularly ranked as one of college football's greatest coaches, Rockne was an inaugural inductee to the College Football HOF in 1951. Rockne has boldly signed in black ink below his photo on front, vertical crease bisecting his last name but not breaking ink and signature remains distinct. Program has been folded in quarters and shows obvious wear along spine, w/small tears/splits and edge tears along opposite side. Front of program has three spots of dark staining from paperclip rust, which has eaten through back page, leaving 1/8" hole. Small pieces of tape at bottom center on front/back pages. Program is VG overall but signature still displays VF. A sought after signature and very desirable on a piece such as this. Comes with Hake's COA and JSA LOA. Chuck Bruce HOF Collection.
