Item Description
Four approx. 15.5x21-1/8" artboards feature pen and ink original art (w/screentone accents) for complete four-page story originally published in DRAG Cartoons #10 in 1964 by Vance Bristow. Art is for Cousin Zeb story World's Fastest Rattletrap! and features art which is in a style that serves as a clear parody of the Barney Google and Snuffy Smith comic strips. Story deals w/Cousin Zeb using his Rattletrap car to deliver Thurlow's "Mountain Mist" beverage (a nod to Mountain Dew, which originated in Tennessee and utilized hillbilly imagery in its early advertising) to town. After running out of gas, Zeb pours some Mountain Mist in the tank and proceeds to blast off, reaching outer space, where he orbits the planet before making the delivery. Upon his return he and Thurlow discover the source of the rattle in his Rattletrap, a drunk rattlesnake under the hood who's partaken of some Mountain Mist. Lower right margins have "DRAG" title name and issue/pages numbers in red felt tip pen. Two small stat paste-over cartoons; one of first and one of second artboard. Margins have some scattered editorial notations at bottom. First artboard has some scattered moisture spotting at top margin, not overly affecting art, which remains clean and VF to Exc. From the Archives of Publisher Pete Millar.
