Item Description
Lot of five glossy 8x10" silver gelatin photos showing displays set up in grocery stores in 1937 to promote extensive line of premium comic character Comicooky Baking Sets offered through Pillsbury's Sno Sheen Cake Flour. These sets included cookie cutters to make cookies of comic characters from Moon Mullins, Dick Tracy, Harold Teen, Smitty, Gasoline Alley and Winnie Winkle comic strips. One photo shows large Smitty standee, who holds Comicooky Baking Set in his hand. Other five photos show large and elaborate window displays set up at various stores (four of five w/locations penciled on backs), featuring large standees of Lillums, Dick Tracy, Emmy Schmaltz, Moon Mullins and Kayo flanking large displays of intricately decorated Comicookies. Some of the displays also feature products boxes, premium displays and one even features an array of bakery items in front of the display. Given the size and age of these displays and the temporary nature of the displays, the likelihood that any survived is very low, making these photos the only record of their existence. Photos have some lt. corner tip wear and are VF overall. From the archives of premium creators Sam & Gordon Gold and comes with LOA.
